Shalonda Solomon Leads Five Gamecock Sprinters at US Olympic TrialsFormer Gamecock Shalonda Solomon enjoyed her first Independence Day as a professional Friday by winning the preliminary round of the 200-meter dash at the U.S. Olympic Trials at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field. Solomon ran a 22.51 for her first win since announcing on June 27, 2007, that she would leave South Carolina early to become a professional. A three-time NCAA champion, including indoors and outdoors in the 200-meter dash, Solomon missed the early part of year while healing a quadriceps injury. more

Trio of Gamecocks Named NGCA All-American ScholarsThe South Carolina women's golf team placed three of its members on the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) All-American Scholar Team. Seniors Whitney Simons and Blythe Worley collected the honor for the fourth time in as many seasons, while sophomore Taylor Barrett appeared on the squad for the second time. The Gamecock trio was among 22 Southeastern Conference golfers on the list. more

Tiffany Ross-Williams Wins 400mH, Earns Berth to 2008 Olympic GamesSouth Carolina graduate Tiffany Ross-Williams won the 400-meter hurdles Sunday at the Olympic Trials to become the first Gamecock to earn a berth for USA to the 2008 Olympic Games that will be held in Beijing, China beginning August 8. Four other Gamecocks also competed in final rounds Sunday while two others advanced to compete Monday in their respective semifinal rounds. more07/03/2008
